A new, prosperous life in the sun - Turkeys untold secret

Emigration to Turkey is a big decision and you need to be aware of both the PROs and CONs.

If youre reading this then maybe you know some of the PROs but you may be surprised at some of the suggestions I have.

What if you could live in a luxury property in Turkey, have all the conveniences of the UK but with beaches and mountains on your doorstep, excellent health and medical facilities, friends and a great community spirit with a very high income without having to work or sacrifice any capital?

Sound good? Heres how I can justify the above comment.

Consider, for example, you can free up £175000 from your assets in the UK, perhaps property equity or sales.

  • You could buy a luxury property in most places along the South West Turkish coast for £70000 (or much less).
  • £5000 to spend on Furnishings etc.
  • £100000 deposited in a Turkish bank account (in Turkish Lira) will get you around 16-19% interest annually (depending on the bank and your haggling skills, YES, you can even haggle these!) (Please note these are correct at the time of writing but please check interest rates)
  • You will have a luxury furnished property, an income of £16-19000 per annum, doesnt sound like much compared to UK income but remember this is AFTER all taxes and compared to the average coastal workers income of around 12-15000ytl per annum (£5000-6500) and you'll see that you will have trouble spending that much. This has become so common a new acronym has arisen to describe this lifestyle - LOTI - Living Off The Interest.
  • If thats not enough and you get bored earning all that money not working then why not play the rates markets? Have two accounts, a UK (or Euro) account as well as Lira account, and shuffle your money between the two as the exchange rates fluctuate, this could gain you extra thousands each month!
So there you have it, a luxury property, a new life in the sun, great friends from many cultures, protected capital and a good bricks and mortar investment gaining value.

If any of this sounds appealing to you please get in touch, we can help you with the complete emigration process to ensure your move to Turkey goes smoothly.

Other PROs

  • HEALTHCARE - The quality of healthcare in Turkey is generally excellent, private hospitals are plentiful and very well equipped, health insurance is recommended although as of writing, foreign residents are now entitled to apply for Turkish state health insurance allowing you to not only use the local state health facilities very cheaply but also get a Turkish pension!
  • THE WEATHER - Not just for a great year round tan but also for your general health.
  • AFFORDABLE PROPERTY - Not too many places left with this.
  • RELAXED LIFESTYLE
  • MIX OF MODERN AND TRADITIONAL PEOPLE, PLACES AND CULTURES
  • NO NANNY STATE - Turkey still values the individuals and familys freedom and as such does not impose such strict nanny regulations as can be witnessed in many European countries. Many observers relate the lower crime and drug abuse rate to this approach.
  • CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTION - Your property ownership rights and most of the freedoms enjoyed in Turkey are protected by the Turkish Constitution (which has more basic protections than the so called EU Constitution, research it and see). So you and your assets are safe in Turkey regardless of the political party in power.
  • BANKS - As well as many good Turkish banks there are plenty of foreign banks represented in Turkey including HSBC, banks offer very good interest rates and are on the whole very modern and efficient with most offering English speaking staff, phone and internet banking.

OK, now the CONs

I dont want to shoot myself in the foot but its not all sweetness and light in Turkey, be prepared for :-

  • BEAURACRACY - Lots and lots and lots of it. It is said that any country is three meals from revolution, take away three meals from any country and they will riot, well, in Turkeys case it could be said that take away paper and rubber stamps and that would be all it it takes! PATIENCE is more than a virtue here, its a requirement if you dont want to end up insane.
  • THE WEATHER - yes, I know ive put it in the PROs too but lets be honest, in some areas it can get VERY hot in the summer and although Im OK with that and just grab the beach bag, some people leave Turkey for JULY and AUGUST or get a small home in the mountains to retreat to when its gets unbearable.
  • CON MEN - When some tourist resort workers see a foreigner you become a wallet on legs to them, you WILL get ripped off but if you have the right contacts and friends (like us :-) then hopefully it will just be over the price of a beer.
